Fallen Stock Collection

Leo Group is an approved collector and transporter of fallen stock, providing a reliable service to farms throughout the UK.

Through our subsidiaries Tom Goddard & Sons, Douglasbrae Ltd and Robinson Mitchell, with depots in England, Wales and Scotland, we are one of the UK’s largest collectors of fallen stock. We are also a proud member of the National Fallen Stock Scheme and Licensed Animal Slaughterers’ & Salvage Association (LASSA).

The collection of fallen stock is often an unappreciated service, but in fact is a vital process of farm disposal in modern times.

It is a farmer’s responsibility to arrange for the safe and legal collection and disposal of fallen stock. The burial or burning of fallen stock in the open is banned to prevent the risk of spreading disease from residues in the soil, groundwater or air pollution.

We pride ourselves on a professional, efficient disposal service and in most cases the fallen stock is collected from the site on the same working day that we are notified. Our modern fleet of vehicles are all self-loading, fitted with vehicle tracking systems and approved by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Once the animals are collected, they are taken to one of our Category 1 rendering plants in Bradford or Kintore. From there the material goes through the rendering process to produce two products; meat and bone meal (MBM) and oil. These products can be used as a carbon neutral alternative to fossil fuels and in the creation of biofuel.
